Jazz saxophonist John Coltrane was one of the pioneering figures of the bebop and hard bop idioms, intorducing the techniques of modal jazz, and becoming known for his “sheets of sound” style. This album from 1964 was recorded in a single session with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison, and drummer Elvin Jones, and was one of his biggest sellers and most critically acclaimed, widely considered as his own particular masterpiece and one of the great jazz albums of all time.
