The Doors were one of the most distinctive of the US bands to emerge from the psychedelic rock era of the late 1960s, their music characterised in particular by Ray Manzarek’s organ sound and the unique vocal style of the ill-fated iconoclast Jim Morrison. Between 1967 and 1971, when Jim Morrison met his untimely demise, they produced a series of innovative singles and albums, and this 20-track collection includes all their best-known songs – the classic “Light My Fire”, plus their debut US hit “Break On Through [To The Other Side]”, and the hits that focused more on Morrison, like “Love Me Two Times”, “Hello, I Love You”, “People Are Strange”, “Riders On The Storm” and “L.A. Woman”. It’s remarkable how music like this instantly recaptures the atmosphere of an era.
